Our Historic Courses

A Legacy of New York City Golf

Pelham Bay Golf Course, one of the oldest public courses in the United States, first opened in 1901. Its sibling course, Split Rock, was later built as a Works Progress Administration (WPA) project during the Great Depression, opening in 1936. Both courses were later redesigned by the notable architect John Van Kleek. The property’s rich history is a defining feature, with the Split Rock course running alongside a historic wall from the 1776 Battle of Pell’s Point, a landmark visible on the 6th hole. This blend of historic significance and beautiful design makes for a unique golfing journey through time.

A Unique 36-Hole Experience

As New York City’s only 36-hole golf facility, we offer golfers two distinct challenges in one exceptional location. The Pelham Bay course is a par 71, providing a classic and engaging round with a challenging, two-tiered green on the 4th hole and a memorable finishing hole. The Split Rock course is a par 70, known for its strategic layout and its historic 6th hole. Both courses are characterized by gently sloping hills and lush forestry, creating a serene and picturesque environment that feels a world away from the city’s bustle.

Our beautifully restored Greek Revival clubhouse serves as a central hub for all our amenities. It houses the Grill Room restaurant and offers a variety of elegant venues for events, from intimate gatherings to grand celebrations. “I have played many courses in this area but none are as nice as these two. very easy to get a tee time a very reasonable greens fees..especially for seniors. the courses are well maintained and the fairways are tree lined like all the more mature courses such as these. the layout on both of the courses are great and even the high handicapper will have fun playing either one. i love these courses so much i informed my fellow golfers in my steady foursome that these are the only courses i want to play here in westchester…they are that nice and the atmosphere is wonderful with more af a private country club feel. if you play golf make this your next stop and you wont be sorry. best kept secret in nyc because it borders westchester on the coast of long island sound”

The staff, particularly Dean, Rocco, Kristin and Jeanine, were on top of it! They were super attentive to us as organizers (many of us never played golf let alone hosted s tournament) and to all the details that went into a successful outing. The food was delicious too!
